Quora Question : Do chickens recognise faces like people or smells like dogs? Why do they only accept being pet by certain people?

I have pet chicken for many many years, they do recognize people, they don’t smell people to recognize people, just like human, we recognize people by verifying by sight and voice, Most birds, including chickens, hear well. Birds have ears on both sides of their heads, and unlike humans, birds do not have external flaps on their ears. Instead, the opening of the ear is covered by a special tuft of feathers. These feathers protect the ear without impairing perception of sound.
That explain why my mother always have to called the chicken name and they will just come around to get food, they recognize my mother voice as she always feed them food, when my mother called the name, they will just come over, every time, but when is me, they just ignore, because sometimes I called them for fun, just to see them run quickly and funny here and I would not get them any food.
Chicken are like human, different chicken act differently, some of chicken are clingy and they like to pet by human, some of it are really self defense, they don’ like human to hold them, so they don’t allow people to pet them. I remember one of my chicken are really smart, when they need your pet they will just fly to your laps and sit down to let you pet. Chicken are really smart creature, they will be nice to you if you treat them food.
here is the chicken that actually let me pet and being friendly.
